Nikolai-Haus

Friedrich Nikolai was a key figure in the German enlightenment. He was a publisher and a writer, andĀ a close friend of Lessing and Mendelssohn. Together they held a longterm threeway correspondence. It should be noted that, according to my expert informant, Nikolai’s novels sold more copies than Goethe’s Werther. His house in Berlin still standsĀ - which seems unlikely for Berlin – but is no longer open as a museum. Apparently it’s up for sale. I just thought I would post this in case someone was looking for a nice comfortable 18th century house in the middle of Berlin!
